Take Dara’s word for it:

I fell in love with the Carribbean coast of Costa Rica during my first visit 12 years ago. This summer I returned with my daughter and an SUV rental with the intention of travelling throughout Costa Rica. Three weeks later I barely made it out of Cahuita. What’s to love? The jungle. Rich with sound color and scents, howler monkeys, hibiscus flowers, and long stretches of black beaches. The people. You will find a mix of Afro-Carribean, Rasta, Bribri Indigineous, Mestizo, Surfers and International lovers of the relaxed lifestyle. Everything. The Goddess Garden is located down a long stretch of unpaved road, the perfect mix of luxury (pool, spa, beach access, incredible healthy meals) and adventure (monkeys, monsoon rains, jungle). In a perfect blend of sychronicities, as I stood on the hardwood floors of the Goddess Garden studio, between the statues of divine feminine and divine masculine, eyes closed, heart open, the jungle symphony playing in the background, I just knew. This is Sacred. This is you. You’ll love it.

Testimonials from Teacher Training Graduates

Sacred offered an exceptional training with a strong community of powerful soul-seekers that challenged me to grow my asana and spiritual practice beyond anything I could have imagined. The technical lessons and preparation for teaching was wonderful and I began teaching right away. I feel so supported to take risks and push myself to teach as much as possible and continue the journey. I’m deeply grateful to have gone to training with Sacred and learned from Stephanie Battle and Dara Cole- two incredible leaders, teachers and human beings.

Sacred’s Teacher Training Program was all that I thought it would be and so much more! It was thorough and enlightening, challenging and supportive. I learned so much more than I imagined. Because of Sacred’s spirit of excellence in every aspect of their business model, including teacher training as well as their classes, I am confident that I can now take this expertise to empower all whom I teach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be able to teach yoga once I complete the 200 Hour program?

Yes. After graduating the training, you will be prepared to teach group classes or to private clientele. Teaching is a practiced art so we recommend teaching as much as possible immediately to increase your skill level and confidence. Everyone will teach at least two community classes as part of their practicum at Sacred. There are limited teaching positions available at Sacred. Teacher training does not guarantee that you will teach at this studio in particular. However, it is our intention to support, grow, and employ our graduates whenever and wherever possible.

How proficient in yoga do you have to be to do the program?

We recommend at least eight months of regular practice. We see teaching as an extension of being a student. There are times when building a sturdier foundation is useful and other times when this is only a fear-based barrier to jumping in. We are here to help you suss out whether you are ready and if you are not, how to best prepare for upcoming trainings. If you are not sure, definitely, talk with one of our program advisors. Don’t worry, you don’t need to have the bendiest body or know the Sanskrit names for everu asanas to begin teacher training or even to be a gifted yoga teacher.

When will I find out if I have been accepted into the program?

Applicants will find out if they are accepted within 2 weeks of submission of their completed application and processing fee.

If I don’t want to teach yoga is this the right training for me?

We will have a strong emphasis on teaching as we believe that skilled teachers need not only a strong practice and knowledge of yoga but real true life teaching skills. If you are unsure to what extent or in what capacity you want to teach, definitely this training will work for you. However, if you are deadset against teaching yoga ever and only want to deepen your practice, than this (or any) teacher training might not be the best fit and a yoga intensive may better suit your needs. Unsure? Talk to a program advisor.

Will I have a mentor?

At the 200 hour level, you will not have a specific mentor assigned to you. However there will be small group study offered about twice a week with our teaching staff to support you in your practice teaching. You will be well-supported.

How physically demanding is the training?

You will practice approximately 10-12 times per week. Practices will vary in intensity. You will be encouraged to take good care of your body throughout the training. While it is intensive by nature, you may opt to rest or observe if necessary.

What is Yoga Alliance?

The Yoga Alliance is a nationally recognized organization that registers yoga teachers and schools that meet set standards. Upon successful completion of the Sacred Vinyasa Yoga Flow 200 hour Teacher Training, we recommend you register with The Yoga Alliance as a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher). Our application to be a RYS (Registered Yoga School) is currently pending and we do not anticipate any obstacles in having it approved. For more information about the Yoga Alliance, please go to www.yogalliance.org

Are there scholarships available?

We are offering one low-cost work trade position. To learn more about the Yoga Teacher Training Assistant (YTTA) position, download and read the program overview. To apply, fill out the Yoga Teacher Training Assistant Application.

Are there outside costs for the teacher training?

Yes. Read here to learn more about what tuition does and does not cover and what additional expenses to expect.

How is this yoga program different from other 200 Hour teacher trainings?

Our teacher training is an extension of our Studio. We don’t have a dogma that we preach from nor do we stand for a generic transmission. We believe in accessibility, profundity, intuition, light-heartedness, and accepting the beauty of our imperfections. We think gregarious laughter is as Sacred as a hushed Om. We offer a solid platform to learn the skills necessary to lead a yoga class in a very unique package. In essence, we are fusionists, consciously blending our unique voices with the sage wisdom of our yoga predecessors and contemporary leaders in movements for higher consciousness. We think that punk rock and hip-hop have a place next to Krishna Das on yoga playlists. While many yoga programs seek to perpetuate the teachings of a specific guru from a yoga lineage, we call upon our collective wisdom to reveal the teacher within. In other ways, we are quite similar to other training programs, as essentially we share a common goal of healing through yoga.

What if I can’t do advanced asana?

No problem. This teacher training will not prepare you to teach advanced asana. It will teach a challenging class that is do-able by most of the general public with variations and modifications to increase and decrease the level of challenge. Advanced asana practice is not necessary. In other words, please don’t wait until you can stand on your head with one arm to teach (unless you want to teach a single-handed headstand).

How do I receive my certification?

Once you complete your final practicum successfully, including passing the written and oral final open book exam and successfully teach two full practice classes, you will receive your certification within three weeks time. You will be emailed once it is prepared and will have the option to receive it in person or by mail.

How do I find work after graduation?

We discuss the nature of establishing yourself as a yoga teacher during course of the training. While it is certainly “a hustle”, we know from experience that if you are dedicated and work on your craft, you can find opportunity.

What do I need to pack?

Once enrolled, you will receive a suggested packing list.
