In this training, you will come to understand why you practice the poses. You’ll learn what Yoga is and what it isn’t. And you’ll discover the historical roots of Yoga and the ancient “words of power” that underpin your practice.
Classes include lecture, discussion, light movement and chanting.
You will leave each session refreshed and confident, feeling authentic while advancing your practice and teachings.
This training covers:
- Precise Sanskrit pronunciation of Yoga poses, philosophical concepts and terminology
- The differences between Classical Yoga, Buddhism, Vedānta and Tantra
- How to incorporate philosophy into a class setting
- Exploration of all four chapters of the Yoga manual compiled by the great Sage Patañjali
- Linking these ancient teachings with contemporary understanding
Jill Camera began teaching Yoga in 2001. She is trained in Vinyasa, alignment and classical philosophical methods via the Krishnamacharya lineage. She is on the teaching faculty of many distinguished yoga teacher training programs throughout the New York area and beyond.
Jill maintained her philosophy interest and studies while working part-time as Operations Manager and Business Manager for Chanel and Stagelight Cosmetics respectively before retiring to teach yoga full-time. She currently teaches group, private and corporate asana (posture) classes weekly in Manhattan. She also hosts yoga philosophy workshops throughout the year, and always striving to make the perennial wisdom teachings modern and accessible to her students.
Jill received her advance teaching certification from Adrienne Burke, former Director of Jivamukti Yoga School’s teacher trainings, and has studied anatomy and alignment with Beth Biegler, Ayurvedic practitioner and co-teacher with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. She currently studies Vedic Chanting and chanting the Yoga Sutras of Patannjali with Guta Hedewig, former Director of Yoga Sutra in NYC and Philadelphia and current Director of The Yoga School NY. She attends philosophy classes with Dr. Edwin Bryant and Christopher Hildebrandt. She studies with Chase Bossart, and has had the honor to sit with his teacher T.K.V. Desikachar, the son and student of Krishnamacharya.
Jill is also a long-time student of western esoteric philosophy, most notably Rudolph Steiner, Dion Fortune and Ken Wilber. She wishes to thank all of her teachers with humility and gratitude, most particularly Liz Mandarano who was instrumental in establishing Jill’s Yoga philosophy teacher direction and career.
